Wallaceburg District Secondary School honours athletes at annual banquet

Wallaceburg District Secondary School celebrated the achievements of its student-athletes during the 2025-26 Annual Athletic Banquet, recognizing individual excellence, team success and contributions to the school’s athletic programs.

Hosted by the school’s Student Athletic Association and Tartan Athletics, the event honoured athletes, coaches and supporters for their accomplishments throughout the school year.

Among the major award recipients were R. Mikhaila and J. Burritt, who shared the McFadden Award, presented by the Student Athletic Association. I. VanDamme received the Andy Johnston Memorial Award, while R. Mikhaila and J. Watson were recognized as the outstanding female and male team members, respectively.

B. Nappi was named Sportswoman of the Year and T. Lozon earned Sportsman of the Year honours.

Awards recognizing long-term contributions to athletics were presented to B. Williams and M. Aquash as the female and male contributors to athletics over their careers. Williams and Aquash also received the Walpole Island First Nations Female Athlete of the Year and Male Athlete of the Year awards.

A. Barr and T. Jacobs were named Female Rookie of the Year and Male Rookie of the Year, respectively. Junior Athlete of the Year honours went to S. Burgess on the female side, while J. Allaer and J. Jacobs shared the Junior Male Athlete of the Year award.

J. Burritt was recognized as Senior Female Athlete of the Year, while E. Rosseel received the Senior Male Athlete of the Year award.

The Boys Curling team was named Tartan Team of the Year in recognition of its achievements during the season.

Additional honours included the Brad Lightfoot Memorial Scholarship Award, presented to M. Aquash, the Community Appreciation Award, presented to A. White, and the Ingrid Lahey Spirit Award, which was awarded to Mr. Rountree.

School officials congratulated all recipients and participants, praising both individual and team accomplishments throughout the year.

“Congratulations to all. We are so proud of each and every one of your individual and team accomplishments,” school officials say. “Once a Tartan, always a Tartan.”
