St. Andrews Residence Job Posting: Interim Executive Director (Maternity Leave Coverage)

St. Andrew’s Residence is an independent and not-for profit charitable social enterprise in Chatham,
Ontario that cares for seniors through the operation of a 70-bed retirement home and community
support services such as an adult day program and Meals on Wheels. For over 50 years, we have had a

Overall Position Summary:
As the Interim Executive Director, you will have an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our
residents, clients and their families by taking on responsibility for the overall management and
operations of the organization and our close partners, St. Andrew’s Terrace and Chatham-Kent Hospice.
You will leverage your leadership skills to engage employees, volunteers, professional and community
partners to achieve optimum standards of care and service, while working within budgetary goals and
regulatory requirements.
The Interim Executive Director serves as Chief Executive of St. Andrew’s Residence and is responsible for
the successful leadership and day-to-day operations of the organizations. They have the authority to
carry out these responsibilities, in accordance with the strategic directions and policies established by
the Board. The Interim Executive Director provides overall management and leadership in implementing
Board policy in a manner consistent with the Mission, Vision and goals of the organizations.
St. Andrew’s Residence has a Shared Services Agreement with Chatham Kent Hospice Inc. which includes
specific requirements for the role of Executive Director.

Responsibilities and Primary Duties:
Leadership:
• Achieve and maintain a high quality of care across the organization(s) while providing overall
leadership that is consistent with the mission, vision and values of the organizations and in accordance
with the approved business plans.
• Maintain, create and build strategic partnerships with Home and Community Care Support
Services Erie St. Clair, the Chatham-Kent Ontario Health Team and other organizations within the
community.

• Oversee compliance with the Management Agreements and/or Shared Services Agreement
between St. Andrew’s Residence and related organizations – St. Andrew’s Terrace Life Lease Residence
Inc., St. Andrew’s Residence Foundation, and Chatham Kent Hospice Inc.
• Provide leadership, guidance and support to the organization(s) in accordance with accepted
business and financial practices and standards, Ministry and Board directives, guidelines, policies and
procedures.
• Achieve strategic and annual performance objectives
• Encourage and promote leading practices and support the Senior Leadership Team(s) on
changes and the impact of changes in care and service delivery.
• Lead the organization(s) and business activities in a positive and productive work culture.

Relationship Management:
• Maintain and establish community partnerships including opportunities for collaboration and
joint planning, linking organizational initiatives with programs from other community partners for
comprehensive service provision.
• Responsible for stakeholder relations and enhancing public awareness as well as participating in
Board of Director meetings and a variety of community and/or professional committees and work
teams.
• Serve as the representative and spokesperson for the organization(s) in the community.
• Accountable for various working relationships with employee groups, professional bodies,
government agencies, elected officials and other stakeholders in the provision of care and services.
• Keep the Board(s) of Directors fully informed on matters related to the organizations(s), and
make recommendations to the Board(s), as required.
• Promote and practice a safe environmental workplace culture and the wellbeing of all human
resources, including volunteers.
• Maintain, create and implement fair employment practices for both unionized and non-
unionized staff.

Planning, Delivery and Evaluation:
• Implement, monitor and evaluate annual objectives, performance targets and short and long
term strategic and operational plans.
• Demonstrate the values of the organization(s) and monitor compliance with all standards of
care and professional practice regulations.

• Monitor community needs, stakeholder satisfaction, and scorecard metrics to ensure that care
is responsive to resident and client needs and take action to improve operations.
• Champion continuous improvement within the organization(s) and provide direction in the
development of policies, procedures, systems and tools to improve care and service delivery.
• Ensure the filing of all legal and regulatory documents, and monitor compliance with relevant
laws and regulations.
• Maintain a human resources plan and organizational chart to support the operational needs of
the organizations.

Finance:
• Oversee the fiscal activities of the organization(s) including budgeting, reporting and audit.
• Approve expenditures within the authority delegated by the Board(s) of Directors.
• Ensure that sound bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed.
• Administer the funds of the organization(s) according to the approved budget and monitor the
monthly cash flow of the organization(s), taking corrective action as necessary.
• Provide the Board(s) of Directors with comprehensive, regular reports on the revenues and
expenditures of the organization(s).
• Ensure that the organization(s) complies with all legislation covering taxation and withholding
payments.

Education, Experience & Assets:
• University degree, college diploma or relevant work experience in a related field
• Minimum of five (5) years of senior management experience in a not for profit or healthcare
organization, including budgeting, operating statement analysis, labour relations and an understanding
of all relevant health, employment, safety and other applicable legislation
• Working knowledge of Ontario Health, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Seniors and
Accessibility priorities
• Experience working with a Board of Directors
• Demonstrated ability to lead, engage and manage a sizeable multidisciplinary team, in a
unionized and non-unionized environment
• Solid understanding of business planning processes and business metrics
• Experience in risk management activities and demonstrated knowledge of continuous quality
improvement processes

• Passion to promote a relationship-centered care philosophy
• Effective verbal and written communication and ability to provide clear direction.
• Ability to work independently, to exercise sound judgement, to make appropriate decisions, and
to accept responsibility for outcomes.
• Excellent organizational skills
• Strong computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Provision of a recent (within 6 months) Criminal Record Check (CRC) with a Vulnerable Sector
Check (VSC).
• Effective bilingual (English/French) communication skills, both verbal and written, is an asset.
• Proof of COVID-19 vaccination will be a condition of employment for new hires, except when
impossible due to legitimate, established exceptions. The vaccine must be at minimum, a two-dose
COVID-19 vaccination series approved by Health Canada.
