Community Living Chatham-Kent kicked off Community Living Month off with a flag raising and BBQ at the Civic Centre in Chatham earlier this week.
A flag raising set to be held at the Wallaceburg Service Centre for Community Living Wallaceburg was postponed due to rain as well.
The Community Living Wallaceburg flag raising will be held at a later date this month.
Ron Coristine, Executive Director of Community Living, provided greetings to those assembled at the Chatham event this week.
“Community Living month is a month to celebrate the skills and talents of all people, and it is also a month to acknowledge that every person is a valued citizen of this municipality,” he said, in a media release.
Mayor Darrin Canniff added: “This is what defines Chatham-Kent, the people sitting here right now, how we have come together to celebrate skills, to celebrate each other, that is what flying these flags are about. That is what Community Living month is all about! Community Living is amazing for what they do in the community, I cannot imagine Chatham-Kent without all of you in it and what you do. You make Chatham-Kent so special.”
The barbecue sponsors, included: OPSEU Local 148, Schinkels, Subway and Maple City Bakery.
