The cause is undetermined and approximately $20,000 damage was caused after a railroad tie fire in Chatham on Thursday, November 16, 2023.
“Stations #1 and #2 – Chatham were dispatched to a brush fire along the tracks on Bloomfield Road,” fire officials said in a media release on Friday.
“Upon arrival a large pile of railroad ties was on fire. Tankers from Station #15 – Raleigh North, Station #12 – Harwich North, and Station #7 – Chatham South were called in to assist with suppling adequate water to fight the stubborn fire.”
Fire officials say crews were on scene for numerous hours to fight the blaze.
No injuries were reported, fire officials added.
