Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On May 23, 2025, at approximately 6:14 p.m. the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of two individuals observed concealing various items at a retail store in Chatham.
Loss Prevention Officers reported that the suspects concealed several items.
The suspects proceeded to the self-checkout area where they paid for a few non-concealed items.
No attempt was made to pay for the concealed merchandise.
The Loss Prevention Officers apprehended one suspect, a 35-year-old female from Chatham, while the other, a 51-year-old female also from Chatham, fled the area on foot, discarding several items while evading arrest.
Police officers located the second suspect, and she was arrested.
The individuals were charged with the following:
– Theft Under $5,000
– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
Additionally, they were issued Provincial Offences Notices under the Trespass to Property Act, for engaging in prohibited activity on the premises.
Both individuals were released with a scheduled date of June 23, 2025.
