Sarnia Police Service officials allege: A driver is facing multiple criminal and traffic-related charges after being stopped for travelling more than twice the speed limit while impaired, police say.
On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, a Traffic Services Unit officer was monitoring traffic on Blackwell Road near Modeland Road in response to ongoing community concerns about speeding.
At approximately 4:05 p.m., the officer recorded a vehicle travelling at 108 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone. The officer activated emergency lights and pursued the vehicle, which continued for about 800 metres before coming to a stop.
Police say the driver showed signs of alcohol impairment and was arrested at the scene. Breath tests later confirmed blood alcohol readings of 200 and 190 milligrams—more than double the legal limit.
Further investigation revealed the driver was under multiple driving prohibitions issued under both the Highway Traffic Act and the Criminal Code. He was also found to be bound by a probation order at the time of the incident.
As a result, the individual was charged under the Criminal Code with impaired operation of a conveyance, operation while impaired over 80, operating a motor vehicle while prohibited, and breach of probation.
In addition, he was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with driving while under suspension, driving while prohibited under a Criminal Code suspension, and stunt driving.
The driver was released on an undertaking with conditions and a future court date. The vehicle was impounded for 45 days under the Vehicle Impoundment Program.
