Over $220K in drugs seized following trafficking investigation

Sarnia Police Service officials allege: A man was arrested in Petrolia on June 26 following a Sarnia Police investigation into suspected drug trafficking activity in the city.

The arrest was carried out by the Major Case Action Team (MCAT), with support from the Emergency Response Team and K9 unit. During a traffic stop, the suspect became combative and was taken into custody after a conducted energy weapon was deployed.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of approximately 10.5 ounces of cocaine, 13 ounces of methamphetamine, and 8 ounces of fentanyl—half of which was uncut and capable of producing nearly a kilogram when mixed with precursor substances also recovered. The estimated street value of the drugs is $222,069. Officers also seized $7,900 in Canadian currency.

Investigators later executed a search warrant at a nearby Airbnb in Petrolia, where the suspect had been staying. There, police seized an additional $12,140 in cash, packaging materials, food colouring, a digital scale, and 7.34 grams of MDMA.

Police say the seizure indicates evidence of high-level trafficking in the Sarnia area, with signs that fentanyl was being processed and prepared for distribution at the residence.
