Impaired driving charge laid after incident at Bluewater Bridge

OPP officials allege: A 51-year-old Sarnia resident is facing an impaired driving charge following an early morning incident at the Bluewater Bridge, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.

Police say officers with the Lambton County detachment were called to the border crossing on March 15 at about 3:50 a.m. after receiving a report from the Canada Border Services Agency regarding a possible impaired driver.

As a result of the investigation, the individual was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with operation while impaired — blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

Police say a 90-day administrative driver’s licence suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment were also imposed.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia on April 16, 2026.

Police are reminding the public to report suspected impaired drivers by contacting the OPP at 1-888-310-1122, *OPP (677) on a mobile phone or 911.
