Chatham’s Bridget Carleton selected by Portland Fire in WNBA expansion draft

Chatham native Bridget Carleton is heading to a new chapter in her professional basketball career after being selected by the Portland Fire in the WNBA Expansion Draft.

Carleton, who attended John McGregor Secondary School in Chatham, was chosen from the Minnesota Lynx as Portland begins building its roster ahead of the 2026 season.

“So excited for this next chapter. Let’s get it, Portland!! 🔥🔥” Carleton posted on X following the announcement.

Her departure from Minnesota marks the end of a lengthy run with the Lynx, where she developed into a consistent contributor over multiple seasons.

“215 games and 4,767 minutes played across seven seasons as a Lynx. thank you, BC,” the team posted in a farewell message.

Carleton, born in Chatham, has represented Canada on the international stage, including at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and has steadily built her professional résumé since being drafted in 2019.

The Portland Fire, one of the WNBA’s newest franchises, will make its on-court debut in 2026.
