OPP officials allege: Ontario Provincial Police is seeking public assistance following the theft of telecommunication wire in St. Clair Township.
Lambton County OPP said officers were called shortly after 12:30 p.m. on May 6 to an area along Highway 40 after three utility boxes were damaged and telecommunication wires were cut and stolen.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
The OPP warned that thefts involving telecommunication infrastructure can create significant public safety concerns because communication networks support services such as 911, emergency response systems, medical alert services, internet access and telephone connectivity.
Police said disruptions to communication lines may result in delays for residents and emergency responders during critical situations.
Investigators are asking residents to report suspicious activity near telecommunications infrastructure to help protect essential services.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Lambton County OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or provide information anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS). Police said tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
