Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 31-year-old Chatham man is facing multiple charges after allegedly activating a fire alarm at Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters.
Police said the incident occurred on June 3 at approximately 11:40 p.m. at police headquarters on Third Street in Chatham.
According to investigators, the man entered the building and activated the fire alarm despite there being no fire.
Police allege the man later spit on a police officer after being lodged in cells. Officers also determined he was bound by a probation order requiring him to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
As a result, the 31-year-old man was charged with false alarm of fire, assaulting a peace officer and failing to comply with a probation order.
He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
