Merlin resident charged after alleged impaired driving incident

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 53-year-old Merlin resident is facing charges after Chatham-Kent police investigated reports of a suspected impaired driver.

Police received a traffic complaint at about 4:04 p.m. on June 20 regarding a driver who was allegedly unable to maintain a lane and had nearly struck several motorcyclists and another vehicle.

Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

Police said the driver was arrested and taken to headquarters for further testing. Investigators allege the accused refused to provide suitable breath samples after receiving a lawful demand.

The accused has been charged with impaired operation of a conveyance and failure or refusal to comply with a breath demand.

The individual was released with a court date of July 27.
