Heat warning
A heat warning remains in effect for Chatham-Kent and Rondeau Park as a prolonged period of hot and humid weather continues through Saturday. Daytime highs are expected to reach around 31 C, with humidex values in the mid-30s creating uncomfortable conditions. The warning is expected to end this evening as temperatures begin to ease.
Environment Canada says that while temperatures will be lower than in recent days, high humidity may also contribute to worsening air quality, with the Air Quality Health Index potentially approaching the high-risk category. Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activities, seek air-conditioned or shaded spaces, and check on older adults, those living alone and others who may be more vulnerable to heat-related illness.
Officials also remind the public to watch for signs of heat exhaustion, including headache, dizziness, nausea and fatigue, and to seek immediate medical attention if symptoms of heat stroke develop. People are also urged never to leave children, pets or anyone else unattended inside a parked vehicle.
