Motorcyclist charged after alleged dangerous driving in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 20-year-old Chatham man is facing multiple charges after police allege he was seen speeding through the city on Monday afternoon.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said an officer was patrolling on Lacroix Street at about 2:41 p.m. on July 6 when a motorcycle was observed travelling at a high rate of speed. Police said an Automated Licence Plate Recognition system alert helped officers identify the licence plate and registered owner.

A short time later, officers located the motorcycle hidden in bushes near Keil Drive. Following an investigation, police identified the driver.

The man was arrested and charged with dangerous operation, flight from a peace officer, driving while under suspension and performing a stunt while driving a motor vehicle.

He was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters and later released with a court date of Sept. 29.
