The Brigden Fair Ambassador program has been part of local tradition since 1972, growing and adapting with each new generation. What began as a simple fair role has become a respected leadership opportunity for youth who want to learn, contribute and be seen within their community.
The Ambassador doesn’t need to come from a farm or have deep agricultural roots. They don’t need to have grown up in Brigden. What matters is enthusiasm, curiosity and a willingness to step forward. The program builds confidence, communication skills and community awareness, and it’s the kind of experience that strengthens both résumés and future ambitions. At its heart, the role is about learning, leading and embracing challenges that help shape tomorrow’s community leaders.
This year’s Ambassador Competition will be held August 9, 2026 at 2 p.m. in the Exhibition Hall at the Brigden Fairgrounds. Pre‑registration is required, closing July 24, 2026. The competition is open to men and women aged 17 to 26 as of August 1, 2026. While past Ambassadors from any Ontario Fair or former CNE Ambassador competitors are not eligible, previous Brigden contestants are welcome to return. Contestants should have some agricultural knowledge and be prepared to represent MAS throughout the Brigden Fair weekend, October 9 to 12, as well as at parades, banquets and other community events. The successful Ambassador will also represent MAS at the OAAS Convention in Toronto in February 2027 and at the CNE Ambassador of the Fairs Competition in August 2027.
Judging will focus on personality, presentation, enthusiasm and community involvement. Contestants will take part in a personal interview, deliver a prepared speech and answer impromptu questions. The Ambassador will receive a VIP fair weekend with free entry, a $500 bursary, a $500 clothing allowance, a fully sponsored trip to Toronto for the OAAS Convention courtesy of Delbridge Contracting Ltd., and a trip to the CNE competition. All contestants will receive free fair entry for the weekend and a prize package donated by sponsors. Monetary awards for best and reserve speech are provided by MorLo Landscaping and in memory of Donelda MacRae.
To understand the impact of the role, Dana sat down with Serena Nicolai, the 2025-2026 Brigden Fair Ambassador, who shared insight into the experience, the responsibilities and the lasting value the program continues to offer young leaders in the community.
