CKHA advances Wallaceburg hospital redevelopment to next stage

Chatham-Kent Health Alliance is continuing to advance the second phase of redevelopment at its Wallaceburg Site, bringing the project one step closer to construction.

The second phase includes a 22,000-square-foot addition that will house a new Emergency Department, Inpatient Medicine Unit, Diagnostic Imaging Department and Laboratory. It follows the completion of the first phase, which included the replacement of the site’s power plant.

The project team has been working through the Ministry of Health’s Capital Planning Process and has submitted its Stage 2.3 Contract Documents package for review. The package includes tender-ready drawings and specifications for the project.

“Working collaboratively with the Ministry of Health throughout this stage allowed us to make sure we are aligned on the project’s design and requirements before it enters the formal review process,” said Terra Kitzul Arens, CKHA facilities manager. “Taking this time upfront was intended to reduce the need for revisions later and help position the project to move efficiently through the approval process. This is a great example of the strong partnership between CKHA and the Ministry as we work together to advance this important redevelopment.”

“The Wallaceburg Site plays an important role in providing care close to home for families across Wallaceburg and the surrounding communities,” said Steve Pinsonneault, MPP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex. “I am pleased to see continued progress on this important redevelopment, which will help ensure patients and families have access to modern, high-quality health care in a facility that meets the needs of the community for years to come.”

Once the ministry’s review is complete and the project is approved to advance, the project team can proceed to tender for a general contractor.

“This is an important step forward for the Wallaceburg Site redevelopment,” said Adam Topp, CKHA president and CEO. “The new space will support modern, high-quality care for patients and families in Wallaceburg and the surrounding community, while creating an improved environment for our staff and physicians. We are grateful to MPP Steve Pinsonneault for his ongoing support and partnership in ensuring long-term access to high-quality care for our region.”

CKHA will continue to provide updates as the project progresses through the Capital Planning Process and toward construction. More information is available at ourhospitalourfuture.com.
