Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) is pleased to celebrate the accomplishment of Fannie Vavoulis, Medical Recruiter & Education Coordinator, for being the Canadian Association of Staff Physician Recruiters (CASPR) national recipient of the 2014/15 “Recruiter Recognition Award”.
The award recognizes a physician recruiter that is innovative and a role model in the areas of physician attraction, recruitment and retention activities in addition to someone who demonstrates commitment and passion for the profession.
“It is an honour to receive this award,” said Vavoulis. “Physician Recruitment is a team effort and I’m grateful for the team I work with, from my colleagues to the senior leadership at CKHA as well as our Chatham-Kent Physician Recruitment & Retention Committee. Also, the support I receive from our physicians during the recruitment process deserves to be recognized. We live in a wonderful community and I feel very fortunate to do the work I do.”
Ms. Vavoulis’ nomination submission, completed by colleagues in CKHA’s Department of Medical Affairs, also included letters of support from physicians and specialists she’s recruited to Chatham-Kent, all three local Family Health Teams, and the Chatham-Kent Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee.
“It is no secret that Fannie is incredibly passionate about CKHA, physician recruitment and our community of Chatham-Kent,” offered President & CEO Colin Patey. “We’re thrilled that Fannie’s commitment and talents have been recognized locally through the nomination process and nationally through the award itself. We are extremely proud of her achievement.”
Since joining CKHA, Ms. Vavoulis has welcomed 41 physicians (20 Family Physicians and 21 Specialists) to the Chatham Kent community. In doing so, she has helped to alleviate the shortage of family physicians in the community and reduced the number of patients without a doctor. With some of the highest rates of chronic disease in the country, access to primary care is key to ensuring patients receive the care they require and avoiding unnecessary hospital visits. By recruiting physicians with needed specialization, Ms. Vavoulis has also helped to ensure that key acute care services continue to be delivered in this community.
Ms. Vavoulis was presented the award last week at the CASPR’s National Conference held in Charlottetown, PEI.
