There is a new development in the story involving a boxer being attacked by a Rottweiler in Chatham last month.
The Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA) has seized the animal and charged the owner.
“The animal is now in the care of the Ontario SPCA and the owner has been charged under DOLA (Dog Owners’ Liability Act,)” said Brad Dewar, investigations communication officer for the OSPCA. “Any other details at this point I wouldn’t be able to speak to. It will be going before the court with the charges and things will follow through as court proceedings move forward.”
Dewar said the fate and future of the Rottweiler will be decided by a Justice of the Peace at the end of the court proceedings.
Dewar said the owner has been charged with two offences.
Kim Babo, the owner of the attacked boxer (Carter), said she is relieved.
“I feel safer knowing that dog is not on the streets,” she said. “I’m hoping for consequences for the owner.”
Babo added Carter had his stitches out yesterday.
“He is doing well,” she said.
We’ll have more on this story as it becomes available.
