Back in MLB’s spring training there was a game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals.
Attending the game was Shaun Cunningham, along with his son, Landon.
At one point the distracted 8-year-old Landon was sending his mom a picture to show her the great seats they had.
It was at that point that the batter’s bat flew out of his hands and headed straight for Landon’s head.
Instinctively, Shaun Cunningham stretched out his arm and absorbed the impact of the stray bat, protecting his unsuspecting son from potential disaster.
Shaun said afterward, “I saw it heading towards him. I didn’t have a lot of time. Guess I’d call it Dad-mode. Just protecting my son.”
The heroic dad’s act went viral.
When I saw it on a morning news program it reminded me of the Father’s great care for each one of us.
We live busy, distracted lives and are often blissfully unaware of the danger that is coming at us.
But, whether we realize it or not, the strong arm of God is there to protect us.
The heavenly Father is always in Dad-mode!
Isaiah 52:10 says, “The LORD has bared His holy arm in the sight of all the nations, that all the ends of the earth my see the salvation of our God.”
God is careful to protect His sons and daughters, and He does it in many ways.
Shaun Cunningham is a hero in the eyes of his young son, who confidently announced that he planned to go to more baseball games – as long as his dad sat next to him.
God will do the same for you, wherever you go.
Just put your trust in Him!
