Months of planning and preparation is set to come together on Saturday evening, as the Kinstock Music Festival rocks the community of Dresden.
Canadian rock ‘n roll will be blasting from the Kinstock stage, as the Dresden Kinsmen have secured Juno Award winning rock quartet Sloan as their headliner.
“There is something about playing the smaller towns,” Jay Ferguson, guitarist and vocalist with Sloan, told the Sydenham Current.
“Sometimes there is a really an extra enthusiastic crowd that you don’t get in the bigger cities. So fingers crossed that people are interested and enthusiastic to see us in Dresden.”
Ferguson said while the band has been touring the country celebrating the 20-year anniversary of their 1996 album ‘One Chord To Another’ – playing the album in its entirety along the way – Sloan will be playing a jukebox array of their hits in Dresden.
“We will play some songs from ‘One Chord’ in the set for sure but it’s more like, the summer shows are a little bit different because usually its one long set kind of thing or playing outdoors… there are a lot of big fans out there, but there might be people out there than may only know three songs by us.”
Darren Wills, Kinsmen member and the event organizer, said the group decided after last year that they wanted to expand the event and book the bigger act.
“The first Kinstock two years ago was to celebrate our Dresden Kinsmen 75th anniversary,” Wills said.
“I approached the club about having a bigger budget. We have actually tripled our budget from last year. So than I proceeded from there to seek out who we were interested in bringing in. Sloan was at the top of my list. There was also a couple of others. You work back and forth with their agent and we got lucky we got Sloan booked.”
The gates open at 4 p.m. for the event and tickets will be available at the door.
