Update: Ambulance and van crash turns fatal

Original story: A Chatham man has died following a crash on Highway 40, just outside of Wallaceburg, between a van and an ambulance.

OPP officials say on August 19, 2016 around 10:30 a.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Chatham-Kent Fire Service, and Chatham-Kent Emergency Medical Services (EMS), responded to a two vehicle head-on collision on Highway 40 near Green Valley Line.

A northbound Ford Minivan collided with a southbound Chatham-Kent EMS Ambulance.

The driver, and lone occupant, of the minivan was transported to hospital with life threatening injuries.

As a result of the collision, the male driver, Geoffrey Brereton, 60-years-old of Chatham, has succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the ambulance was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) are assisting with the investigation.

Highway 40 between Dover Centre Line and Bush Line is now open.
