Downtown Wallaceburg has been a construction zone for the last few weeks, as new sidewalks have been installed in the downtown core.

New curb and sidewalk on both sides of Nelson St. from Wellington St. to James St. have been completed and new curb and sidewalk on James St. from Nelson Street to Creek St. on the North Side has also been wrapped up.

The second phase of the project got underway yesterday, as new sidewalk on the north side of James St. from Creek St. to McNaughton Ave. will take place along with some curb spot repairs.

Paolo Magliaro, an Engineering Technologist with the Municipality, said in an e-mail that the second phase is expected to be completed in roughly a week. WE HAVE NEW INFORMATION FROM MAGLIARO, CLICK HERE TO READ THE UPDATE

The new sidewalks that have already been installed look great, and we anticipate the rest of them will look equally as good. When the project is completed, it will enhance the downtown core both aesthetically and from a safety standpoint.

We also understand doing this type of work will have an impact on businesses, there is no getting around that.

We know businesses along Nelson Street were forced to close while the construction came in front of their doors, and we believe the same can be said for some James Street businesses with this second phase.

With the Christmas season and Christmas shopping starting to ramp up, not to mention the Downtown Wallaceburg BIA Christmas Open house set for Thursday, the timing of the project has some folks feeling anxious.
