Sue’s Kitchen Morning Coffee – By Aaron Hall
The OSPCA has been rewarded for their biggest dog fighting ring bust in its history.
Yesterday morning at the Chatham-Kent Police Services Board meeting, members of the OSPCA received Chief’s Commendations from Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) Chief Gary Conn for their efforts, tenacity and dedicated team work.
In October 2015, members of the OSPCA and CKPS executed several warrants at a residence on Morris Line in regards to a dog fighting operation. This complex investigation resulted in the seizure of pit-bull type dogs and evidence consistent with a dog fighting operation.
What started as a barking dog complaint in June 2015 has now been identified as the largest dog fighting operation in OSPCA history.
As a result of this joint investigation, five people were arrested and charged with over 300 Dog Owners Liability Act, Criminal Code and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
In total 38 pit-bull type dogs were seized and remain in OSPCA custody.
Hats off to all involved for a job well done.
