The Knights of Columbus of St. Michael’s Council #9473 has stepped up to help a Dresden couple.

“We are more than happy to help out with a cheque to Richard and Jennifer Hache of Dresden who lost their house in a fire this past week,” local K of C officials said.

“We at the Knights of Columbus hope this will set them back on a track to a happy life.”

The donation was for $500.

Firefighters in Dresden battled the blaze on Saturday night at the 472 Richmond Street home.

Bob Davidson, assistant fire chief, said the cause of the fire is under investigation.

“Upon arrival they discovered a significant working fire,” Davidson said in a press release.

“Fast action by the firefighters prevented the fire from spreading into the remainder of the main fire occupancy and the adjacent occupancies. One neighbouring home sustained minor damage. There were no injuries.”

A total of $100,000 in damage was caused to the home, while $30,000 in damage to the home’s contents was destroyed.

Fire officials say $300,000 worth of property was saved.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials say the fire was deemed not suspicious.

Firefighters managed to save several pets from the burning home.
