Chatham-Kent Tourism has announced two brand new ways it is supporting local tourism operators during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The first is through a Tourism Operator COVID-19 Took Kit, the second by way of a new marketing campaign called ‘See You in CK’.
Municipal officials say beginning September 15, free ‘CK Tourism Operator Covid-19 Tool Kits’ will be handed out at a series of contactless pop-up events.
Each tool kit contains valuable information pieces, a VisitCK branded re-usable non-medical face mask, locally produced hand sanitizer, information signs for businesses, and details about a new global tourism consumer confidence program.
This program, entitled, ‘Safe Travels’ is a simple certification process that tourism operators are encouraged to apply for. It indicates they are following global health and safe protocols and instill confidence in visitors while shopping, dining, staying overnight, or visiting an attraction, Municipal officials say.
“The COVID-19 Tool Kit is a great initiative that we definitely be waiting in line to get,” said Denny Vervaet, co-owner of Red Barn Brewing Company, in a media release.
“Not only will the kit offer our employees the safety they need during these times but it also shows our guests coming from abroad that we are taking critical steps in creating a safe environment for everyone that visits Red Barn Brewing Company.”
Tourism operators can pick up one free kit on the following dates and locations:
– September 15th, Blenheim Arena, 12-2 p.m.
– September 16th, Wallaceburg Arena, 12-2 p.m.
– September 17th, Chatham Memorial Arena, 8-10 a.m.
– September 22nd, Tilbury Arena, 8-10 a.m.
– September 23rd, Ridgetown Arena, 12-2 p.m.
Pre-registration is preferred, by emailing cktourism@chatham-kent.ca as quantities are limited.
Those unable to attend one of the pop-up events can arrange for one by sending an email as well.
“With people wanting to get out and visit some of the amazing and incredible sites in Chatham Kent, we want them to feel safe and secure,” stated Shannon Paiva, Supervisor, Tourism Development, Municipality of Chatham-Kent, in a media release.
“That’s why we are offering tourism operators this tool kit, because that feeling of confidence begins at the operator level.”
This program is made possible thanks in part to funding by FedDev Canada and the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario (TIAO), Municipal officials say.
CK Tourism is also excited to announce a brand new marketing campaign designed to encourage travel and bring more business for local tourism operators by local residents.
The ‘See You in CK’ Campaign, offers residents a chance to become hometown tourists, exploring their own backyard, while supporting local tourism at the same time, Municipal officials say.
“There are so many wonderful things to see and do in Chatham-Kent and now is a great time for residents to explore their own backyard,” stated Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff, in a press release.
“Supporting local tourism operators is so important at any time, but especially now, when this pandemic has affected them the most.”
Residents can find information online at Chatham-Kent Tourism’s updated website www.visitck.ca. There are great trip starters, itineraries, travel suggestions and details highlighting the many gems our municipality has to offer are showcased.
“Rebuilding consumer confidence is an integral part of the tourism industry bouncing back from COVID-19,” said TIAO President & CAO, Beth Potter, in a media release.
“Visitors want to know that when they visit a destination or attraction that the highest health and safety protocols are being followed. By championing the ‘Safe Travels Stamp’ and encouraging operators to apply, Chatham-Kent is helping create the conditions for visitors to return with confidence.”
Potter added: “As Ontarian’s up and down the province are looking closer to home for their vacation this year – the ‘See you in CK’ campaign is a brilliant way of showcasing what is available to them, often just a short journey away, or in their in own backyard. We’re excited to be part of the campaign and know that Ontarian’s won’t be disappointed when they visit Chatham-Kent and see what’s on offer.”
