Fairfield Park officials say they have ‘turned the corner’ on the COVID-19 outbreak

Officials at Fairfield Park in Wallaceburg say they have “turned the corner” on the COVID-19 outbreak at their Dufferin Avenue long-term care home.

“Public Health has confirmed two active cases of COVID-19 among our residents and three active cases among our staff,” Tracey Maxim, administrator at Fairfield Park, said in a media release.

“All other cases have been resolved. Our home is doing well, and we are pleased to report that most of our staff have been able to return to work. Our residents are happy to see their familiar faces and it is because of the efforts of our entire care team that we have turned the corner on this outbreak.”

Maxim said given the status of the home, staff deployed from our various community partners have been gradually transitioning out of the home and will continue to do so in the coming days.

“We are so grateful for their help during this challenging time and for the continuing education on infection prevention and control measures,” Maxim said.

“Even with the positive changes in our home, we remain vigilant in these infection prevention and control practices for the continued health and safety of all residents and staff. We are part of a larger family at Fairfield Park that is made up of our residents, their families, and our staff. The kind of support from our community and our families has been truly amazing and has made all the difference to our care team as we work hard in service of our residents.”

Maxim added: “While this challenge is not yet over, and there is a lot of work left to do, it is clear both inside our home and in the community that we are closer and more connected than ever before, even as we remain physically distant.”

The institutional outbreak at Fairfield Park remains active, public health officials say.

Since the outbreak was first declared on January 10, 2021, a total of 100 positive COVID-19 cases has been linked to the outbreak.
