Stunt driving, resist arrest and drug charges laid on the 401

Chatham-Kent OPP officials allege: On December 19, 2021 at 12:31 a.m., a member of the Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a motor vehicle on Highway 401 that was exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 Km/h.

The officer initiated a traffic stop, when attempting to arrest the driver, they became actively resistant and ran towards an adjacent field.

The driver was then taken into custody without further incident.

OPP Canine handler attended the scene with OPP Canine Maximus and assisted with an evidence search.

As a result of the investigation, a 27-year-old Mississauga man has been charged with the following:

· HTA 172(1) Race a motor vehicle-Stunt S.172(1) HTA

· Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available S. 42(1)(b) LLA

· Resist Peace Officer S. 129(a) CC

· Obstruct Peace Officer S.129(a) CC

· Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine S.5(2) CDSA

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Chatham on January 13, 2022.
