Transport crash on the 401 leads to charges

Chatham-Kent OPP officials allege: On January 5, 2022 at approximately 8:16 a.m. members of the Chatham-Kent detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Chatham-Kent EMS and Chatham-Kent Fire Service responded to a collision involving two tractor trailers near the 66 km marker of the westbound lanes of Highway 401 in the Township of Raleigh, Chatham-Kent, Ontario.

Investigation revealed that a transport truck had been stationary on the westbound shoulder. A second tractor trailer that was travelling westbound on the 401 struck the stationary tractor trailer.

A 51 year old man from Brampton, Ontario has been charged with:

– Careless Driving S.130(1) HTA

– Fail to maintain daily log S.190(3) HTA

– Exceed 13 hours driving time without 8 hours off OREG 555/06 S. (1) HTA

The trucking company was also charged with:

– Failing to Monitor Driver’s Compliance with Regulation OREG 555/06 S.28 (1) HTA

The operator of the stationary tractor trailer was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

One lane of the highway’s westbound lanes was closed temporarily as both vehicles were removed.
