Significant damage was caused just outside of Wallaceburg on Wednesday night, after a wind storm ripped through the community.
Whitney Burk, a spokesperson for Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services, told the Sydenham Current that Station #3 – Wallaceburg assisted by Station #2 – Chatham attended Baseline Road at 3:51 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2022.
“26 poles were knocked down due to high winds,” Burk said.
“There was one vehicle stopped on this stretch of road and there were wires on the vehicle. Contact was made to inform the person to stay in their vehicle until the power could be shut down. Hydro shut down the power, the person was in the vehicle was assessed and was able to leave without incident.”
Estimated cost of the damage has yet to be provided.

A special weather statement from Environment Canada had been in effect across Chatham-Kent at the time of the storm.
Forecasters had said strong easterly winds gusting up to 70 km/h and local power outages were anticipated.
Hydro One officials said on Thursday that 150 customers were without power just outside of Wallaceburg, due to “extreme weather conditions.”
The estimated time of restoration was Thursday, March 24, 2022 at 10 p.m., Hydro One officials added.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials said Base Line, between Albert Street and Prince Albert Road, was closed as of Thursday afternoon.
