A time for everything

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

Fall is my favourite season of the year and October is my favourite month.

The glorious splendour of God’s creation displayed in the many colours of changing leaves does something wonderful for my soul.

Our wedding anniversary is on October 6, and my wife and I even spent our honeymoon in Vermont, the unofficial leaf-peeping capital of the world!

I wish the season lasted longer but alas, autumn’s canvas must give way to winter’s more barren landscape.

Over the years there is a tree located along one of my favourite running routes in town that turns colour way, way earlier than normal.

This tree starts to give way in late July, and by Labour Day half of its colourful display is gone.

It strikes a bare silhouette long before others have barely started their metamorphosis.

I used to get irritated running past this “foliage fraud” because of its untimely turning.

But then the Lord put a thought into my mind.

He was giving me a head start on my enjoyment of fall, a foretaste of what was to come.

It was a tasty hors-d’oeuvre whetting my appetite for the main course.

God has perfect timing for everything, even when it seems like He missed it.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens…”

Fall is a season of change and that might even describe the season you are in right now in your life.

You might be a new parent or an empty-nester; apprentice to your vocation or nicely retired; or you might be a high school freshman or a Ph.D candidate.

Regardless of your station in life enjoy this season that you are in and trust the Lord for the path you are on.

Take the sound advice of our Saviour in Matthew 6:34: “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
