Unfair treatment… and I like it!

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

I arrived home from work one day in mid-March and took a look at the mail that came in.

I had a credit card statement, which I opened, and then almost fell over.

It was ENORMOUS, almost 5 figures, due mostly to several previous purchases for home renovations AND the fact that I had missed my February payment entirely.

Later that day my credit card was declined at a local store, prompting me to make a desperate call to the credit card company.

After several automated voice prompts, I then got connected with a kind lady who informed me that my card had been frozen due to the missed payment.

I explained that I had plenty of credit left but that didn’t matter.

I was in credit card prison and would need to make a substantial payment to get out.

The part that really horrified me was the $100.08 interest charge that had accrued.

Following the encouragement of both my wife and my mother, to plead my case as a usually reliable card holder, I begged to have the interest charge dropped in exchange for a prompt payment.

I could hardly believe my ears when the kind representative replied, “Sure!”

I honestly wasn’t expecting such mercy and was preparing myself to “up the ante” in my pleading, but it wasn’t necessary.

Did you know that the Lord does the same with us in regard to our sins?

Psalm 103:10 gives us the happy news: “He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.”

That’s not a misprint, that’s the Gospel!

Our sins definitely left us in spiritual debt but by asking Jesus for forgiveness that debt gets paid in full – by Him!

How’s that for some amazing grace?
