Stolen vehicle, dangerous driving, flight from police charges in Morpeth

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: At 9:08 a.m., while on general patrol, an officer observed a vehicle travelling west on Talbot Trail near McPherson Road near Morpeth.

The officer confirmed the vehicle had been stolen that morning from St. Thomas.

The officer conducted a traffic stop; the driver failed to stop for police at first, but after a short distance, the vehicle pulled over, and the man exited the vehicle.

The 28-year-old Ontario man was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, operating a motor vehicle while prohibited under the Criminal Code of Canada, and mischief.

He was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with driving while under suspension.

He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.

The man will also face charges laid by the St. Thomas Police Service regarding the theft.
