Traffic stop in Chatham leads to multiple charges, including possession of fentanyl

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On July 30, 2024, at 1:24 a.m., an officer on patrol was alerted by an Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) and conducted a traffic stop on Lacroix Street in Chatham.

The vehicle stopped on Emma Street and the driver attempted to flee on foot. After a short foot pursuit, the man was taken into custody.

Upon a search incident to arrest the man was found in possession of suspected fentanyl.

Officers also confirmed the man was prohibited from driving as a result of driving convictions.

He had also been released from custody for the same offence.

The 35-year-old Chatham man was transported to police headquarters, where the was held pending a bail hearing.

He is currently facing the following charges: driving under suspension, possession of a controlled substance and six counts of operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code of Canada.
