R.I.D.E. checks held in Wallaceburg, Blenheim, Tilbury and Chatham

The Chatham-Kent Police Service held several R.I.D.E. programs in the early morning hours on Friday, January 10, 2025.

A program at Dufferin Avenue at Agnes Street in Wallaceburg saw 12 vehicles being checked, with no tests or infractions.

A program executed at Talbot Street West in Blenheim saw 12 vehicles come through, with no tests or infractions

A program at Mill Street in Tilbury saw 19 vehicles checked, with no tests and one Highway Traffic Act warning given out.

A program executed at Grand Avenue West and Keil Drive in Chatham saw 40 vehicles checked, with no tests performed and one Highway Traffic Act warning was provided.

“Originating in Etobicoke in 1977, the R.I.D.E. program first started as a local initiative to reduce impaired driving in the west end of Metropolitan Toronto,” Chatham-Kent Police Service officials said in a media release.

“The event’s success led to Canada-wide adoption of R.I.D.E., now known as Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere. R.I.D.E. programs operate year-round, with a heavier emphasis during the winter holidays.”
