Two men arrested in separate thefts at same Sarnia retailer

Sarnia Police Service officials allege: Sarnia police say two men were arrested in separate thefts at the same London Road retailer on back-to-back days last week.

On September 25, security stopped a man around 2:07 p.m. after he concealed nearly $400 worth of merchandise in his backpack, including a socket set, a high-performance flashlight and a rechargeable headlamp. He paid only for a soft drink before leaving the store. Police say he was already on bail for a previous theft and under a probation order at the time. He was held for bail and later remanded into custody on charges of theft under $5,000 and breach of probation. Police note he has had 23 interactions with officers since October 2024, including six arrests and nine charges, five for breaching probation.

The following day, on September 26 at about 3:26 p.m., security detained another man after he concealed a work light and socket set valued at $200 before leaving the store without paying. Police say he was also out on bail for a prior retail theft and subject to probation conditions. He was released on an undertaking and faces charges of theft under $5,000 and breach of probation. According to police, he has had 24 interactions with officers since October 2024, including seven arrests and 12 charges, five for breaching probation.
