Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 19-year-old woman has been charged after a car collided with a train early Thursday in Chatham.
Shortly after midnight on October 30, 2025, police were called to Colborne Street following reports of a motor vehicle collision involving a train.
Officers arrived to find a vehicle just off the rails, showing evidence it had struck the train. The driver had exited the vehicle before police arrived and was not injured.
Train officials were contacted and halted the train for inspection, which confirmed damage to the locomotive.
Through investigation, officers determined the driver had been operating the vehicle while impaired. She was arrested and taken to Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters, where she provided two breath samples — both registering above the legal limit.
The woman was charged with operation while impaired — blood alcohol concentration over 80 plus — and released with a court date of November 18, 2025.
