Bkejwanong Youth Council 5K raises funds and brings community together on Walpole Island

Organizers of the second annual Bkejwanong Youth Council 5K Run say the event was a success, bringing together runners, supporters and community members in celebration and fundraising.

The event was hosted by the Bkejwanong Youth Council, which thanked participants for coming out, cheering on runners and supporting the initiative.

“Chi miigwech to everyone who came out to run, support, and cheer on our 2nd Bkejwanong Youth Council 5K Run!” organizers said. “We had such a great time and truly appreciate everyone who helped make the event so special.”

Participants raised more than $350 through pledges, which will go toward future youth council initiatives.

Organizers recognized winners from the event, including Anne Fournier as eldest runner, Billy Hopkins as fastest runner, Destiny Soney for most pledges, and Miji Soney as winner of the Binoojiinhyag Run.

“Together, we raised over $350 through pledges to support future Bkejwanong Youth Council initiatives! Miigwech for your generosity and support,” organizers said.

The youth council says it plans to host additional runs and community events in the future.
