Replacement of the main and lift spans recommended for Wallaceburg’s walking bridge

Public input is being sought, as plans are being put in place to rehabilitate Wallaceburg’s walking bridge.

“Municipality of Chatham-Kent retained Dillon Consulting Limited to complete a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) study for the L.O. Stonehouse Memorial Walk Bridge,” Municipal officials said on the Let’s Talk Chatham-Kent website.

“The bridge crosses the Sydenham River in downtown Wallaceburg and has been closed since November 2021 due to its deteriorating condition. The study is now complete and recommends the replacement of the main and lift spans and the rehabilitation of the remainder of the structure.”

Municipal officials say they want to hear from the public about the study.

“The project file is being made available for a 30-day public review period in accordance with the requirements of the Municipal Class EA (2023),” Municipal officials say.

“The project file documents the problem and opportunity, the evaluation of alternative solutions, anticipated impacts, mitigation measures, consultation completed, and commitments for future work. The project file is available for review from March 30 to May 1, 2023.”

The project file is also available at the following locations during regular business hours:

– Chatham-Kent Public Library, Wallaceburg Branch, 209 James Street, Wallaceburg, Ontario, N8A 2N4

– Municipality of Chatham-Kent Civic Centre, 315 King Street West, Chatham, Ontario, N7M 5K8

“To provide comments or request further information about the project, please contact either of the project team members listed in the ‘Who’s Listening’ section” on the Let’s Talk page.

“Comments are requested by May 1, 2023,” Municipal officials say.
