Prime Minister Mark Carney will travel to Washington, D.C., on the evening of October 6 for a working visit and meeting with U.S. President Donald J. Trump on October 7.
The visit will focus on shared economic and security priorities as Canada and the United States prepare for the first joint review of the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA).
Both countries launched consultations last month to guide that process.
CUSMA represents the world’s second-largest free trade region, accounting for nearly one-third of global GDP and supporting economic growth and high-quality jobs across North America.
Canada maintains the lowest average tariff rate among U.S. trading partners, with 85 per cent of its trade with the United States already tariff-free.
