Chatham-Kent is recognizing older adults across the municipality as part of Seniors’ Month this June, with nominations now open for the 2026 Senior Achievement Awards.
Mayor Darrin Canniff and council are encouraging residents to nominate seniors aged 60 and older who have made meaningful contributions through volunteer work, leadership or community involvement.
“These awards aim to honour adults aged 60+ who have reached significant milestones and made exceptional volunteer contributions throughout Chatham-Kent,” Canniff said. “We are asking for the public’s help. Everyone knows someone who has made a difference—whether through a group effort or as an individual. This is your chance to tell us about that person so we can acknowledge their contributions.”
The awards will be presented during the municipality’s free Aging Well Conference, where the 2026 Senior of the Year will also be announced.
The Senior Achievement Awards have been a municipal tradition since the 1980s, with more than 1,000 seniors recognized over the years for their contributions to the community.
Nominations are being accepted through Let’s Talk CK until June 30, 2026. Residents without internet access can call 519-360-1998 ext. 3001 for assistance, and paper nomination forms are also available at municipal centres in Chatham, Blenheim, Dresden, Ridgetown, Tilbury and Wallaceburg, as well as at local public libraries.
The Senior of the Year will be announced on Sept. 16, 2026, during the Aging Well Conference at Hidden Hills Golf and Country Club.
Officials say an impartial selection committee will review nominations and choose the award recipient.
For more information, residents can contact Councillor Alysson Storey, chair of the Celebration of Older Adults committee, or the Mayor’s Office at 519-360-1998 ext. 3001.
