Motorcycle crash leads to impaired driving charge

Yesterday, just before 8:00 pm, the accused, a 50-year old Chatham man was operating his Harley Davidson motorcycle at the intersection of Wellington Street E and William Street S in the city of Chatham when he lost control of the vehicle and fell off.

Citizens called police at which time; police responded and located the accused standing next to his motorcycle checking it for damage.

During the police investigation, the officer detected the odour of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the accused and they suspected that he had alcohol in his system and a roadside test was conducted, which the accused failed.

As a result, the accused was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in 100 mLs of blood.

When tested, the accused’s blood concentrations were over three times the legal limit.

He was held until sober and released with a future court date.
