The question is simple, yet the answer is appearing to be anything but.The topic and issue that has been dominating the headlines on the Sydenham Current has been the future of the hospital and of healthcare overall in Wallaceburg.
While there have been many arguments posed over the last few weeks, the main sticking point always comes back to whether or not Wallaceburg needs a 24/7, full functioning, emergency room.

Chatham-Kent needs a 24/7 ER located in Wallaceburg. SDH needs to assist PGH to become a better more efficient hospital positioned for providing the very best health care for al of Chatham-Kent not just Wallaceburg.
EMERGENCIES DONT HAPPEN JUST 9-5!
If my mother’s aneurysm had burst when a doctor had not been there she would have died before we got her to Chatham and we would not have had the chance to say goodbye. Some people don’t have cars and can’t afford the ambulance to Chatham. We need a 24 hour ER in Wallaceburg.
It’s interesting! IF you lived in London you think nothing of driving across town in heavy traffic to get to the hospital, same thing in Windsor and even Toronto. This is far more about keeping bricks and mortar intact than it is about working in a partnership to provide best in class service. Infrastructure is the single biggest cost to any business. So money diverted away from keeping a dated and non functional building into new diagnostic machines and more specialized equipment along with funds to recruit and higher specialized physicians only seems to make sense. Instead everyone looses including the folks in Blenheim Tilbury Thamesville Ridgetown ETC… Get the point? but obviously not!
