Chatham-Kent Animal Control safely impounded a young pony found roaming within the City of Chatham early Sunday morning.
At about 5 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14, Chatham-Kent Animal Control received a call regarding a horse at large within city limits. Animal Control Officer Chris LeClair responded promptly and, with the assistance of a local horse enthusiast, safely secured the pony and transported it for care.

The incident marks the third time Chatham-Kent Animal Control has assisted with situations involving equines.
The pony, now affectionately named Peanut, was placed on stray hold in hopes of locating an owner, but the animal remained unclaimed. Thanks to quick community interest, Peanut has since been placed in a new and appropriate home where her needs can be properly met.
Chatham-Kent Animal Control reminds residents that horses and ponies are only permitted on properties zoned for agricultural use. Keeping equines in non-agricultural zones is not permitted and can pose safety concerns for both the animals and the public.
Animal Control thanked members of the public for reporting the concern promptly and extended appreciation to the local horse enthusiast who assisted in ensuring a safe outcome.
